April, 'the bold one', adventuresome horse-woman, mother of five, lover of the land, deep-drinker of all that life offers, college Spanish teacher, story-teller and guide to others' stories, harpist/guitarist, musician extraordinaire, linguist…dreams of the poetess she is…desiring to hear the lilting beauty of the Irish language with its abundance of stories, sayings, and poems.
April Larson grew up in a family where music was a part of life. Though she had no formal private music lessons until college, she is a ‘musician's musician' -- self-taught on a variety of instruments and quickly able to ‘pick-up' any instrument put into her hands. Proficient on guitar, harp, keyboard, and voice, she wields a fiery rhythm when near any type of percussion instrument (or reasonable facsimile thereof).

April's professional career revolves around the study of and teaching of languages. Having obtained her BS degree in Spanish from Bemidji State University in 1975, she has taught the Spanish language in both high school and college programs. An extensive traveler throughout Mexico and Spain, she avidly incorporates the learning of culture, literature, and music of Spanish-speaking peoples into the classroom. She is currently a member of the BSU Spanish faculty where she is finishing her graduate degree in Spanish and under-graduate degrees in French and the teaching of English. In addition, she has over ten years of ESL teaching experience with students from Costa Rica, Hungary, and Poland; and her family has hosted exchange students from Mexico, Sweden, France, Portugal, and Italy.

Returning to BSU in 1989, April pursued a BS degree in music. She has since taught elementary music and been the Fine Arts Coordinator of the Bagley Community Ed program; has been a volunteer musician in Clearwater County Day Care; and, has directed a children's vocal ensemble for the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts in Bemidji, MN. Both recently retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, April and her husband Travis raise horses and beef cattle on their farm near the Buckboard Hills of rural Bagley. Parents of five children, they are actively involved with family interests and activities. April also enjoys doing yoga, organic gardening and cooking, photography, art, riding horses, and writing poetry.
